Move from Learning about Music to Creating Music
Creating music is part of the National Standards. It seems that it is sometimes put on the backburner for performance rehearsals. There are a lot of programs available that allow students to create with ease. This article serves as a reminder that promoting creativity is an important part of learning music as well.

Thanks for posting this. I just found out that this marking period is being extended by about a week due to snow days. This means I have a few more days with my 7th graders than I expected. I was considering bringing in a mobile laptop cart and trying a short project with Garage Band; however, a colleague suggested that Garage Band will be over their heads. This article makes me think that a carefully designed project will be possible with middle school students.
